Malongane
The area
immediately over the border (+- 1 Km) can get extremely waterlogged &
muddy, especially in the summer rainfall months. It is therefore advisable
to only traverse this area with a 4 X 4 vehicle. During these wet months it
is strongly recommended that your vehicle & trailer tyres are
appropriately deflated.
In order to reach Ponta Malongane, you can take either of 3 routes:
- To Malongane via
Ponta do Ouro (9 Km to Ponta do Ouro & 7 Km from Ponta do
Ouro to Ponta Malongane)
- To Malongane via
the gum tree plantations (16 Km)
- To Malongane via the
airport (16 Km)
The
safest route is always via Ponta do Ouro. The other 2 routes are much
quicker in time but may be waterlogged & closed in the height of the
rainy season
NB : Kosi Bay Border
closes at
1700 hours daily
Fuel &
Diesel
Normal fuel &
diesel are available at Ponta do Ouro however unleaded fuel is not
available there. Manguzi (in SA) is the last point at which unleaded fuel
is available
Grocery Shopping
There is a very well
stocked Spar (groceries & hardware) at Manguzi at which any last minute
shopping can be done.
